Laurus Energy submits joint application for Alberta εUCG™ Project

Laurus Energy is another step closer to conducting its proposed Alberta Power project using Ergo Exergy’s εUCG™ technology. A joint application for approval of εUCG™ operations has been submitted to both the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) and Alberta Environment (AENV) by Laurus. The application requested approval from AENV to construct, operate, and reclaim the UCG syngas collection facility in accordance with the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and from the ERCB, to operate the syngas collection facility in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Oil and Gas Conservation Act and the Coal Conservation Act. Laurus Energy also submitted a separate application to AENV for approval in accordance with the Water Act. The application filings focused on key environmental factors including land, air and water. A positive government decision, expected in early 2010, will allow Laurus to move quickly into start-up of the pilot plant, which is already under construction.
